What’s In Your Heart?

My title for today’s post is, “What’s in your heart?” During my quiet time I was reading in Luke 6 right around verse 43.

As I read, I started to think, “what’s in my heart?” It’s a question we should all asks ourselves from time to time. The Bible tells us in verse 43, “for a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. Verse 45, “a good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. Then we get to my key verse, “for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

It’s really easy to tell what kind of fruit a person is producing. The title for this text is “a tree is known by its fruit.” In other words, an apple tree will produce apples. A pear tree will produce pears and so on. Well it’s the same in our lives….

What kind of fruit are you producing? Is it toxic, hateful, anger, jealousy, strife, murmuring, grumbling, or complaining? What’s in your heart? Whatever you give most thought to is what will produce in your life. Do people see Jesus in you? Are you being the “light of the world?” Can people tell you really are a Christian? What comes out of your mouth is what is in your heart. And what is in your heart will eventually come out of your mouth!

Perhaps you are ready to make a change. You have decided that it’s time for you to start producing “good fruit.” Maybe you are ready to start producing the fruit of the Spirit.  Let me give you some practical steps that you can take to start making changes in your life.

Step 1: Repent – ask God to forgive you for the things you have said or done (He is faithful.)

Step 2: Pray – ask God to help you change what you are saying and producing in your life.

Step 3: Read your Bible – allow the Word of God to change you from the inside out.

Step 4: Speak – begin to speak into existence what you want to see happen in your life. In other words, speak God’s Word which is Truth!

Step 5: Decide – you have to decide that you will not go back to the same old person you once were.

Step 6: Believe – that God is able to take the impossible and make it possible in your life. He is able to change you!

Today is a NEW day to start over! God is faithful and willing to change your heart. Ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit and to help you begin to produce the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

Luke 6:45 – “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

I’m cheering you on!
